Comments about AeroGrow Mountain Meadow Seed Kit (6-Pod):

I grew the orange and yellow flowers in this kit in an AG3 and it made a nice fall garden which I took down on Winter Solstice. The total duration of the garden was close to four months.

The calendula was difficult to germinate and only one of three seeds sprouted. It gets very large so one is enough. The germination rate for calendula is listed on the AG box as 66%. The one seed sprouted only after I put some bits of peat over the seeds so they might need darkness for germination. The plant was too tall for an AG3. The first flowers were about 10 inches high but after that they were growing into the hood and I put them in water by the AG so that they could finish blooming. There were quite a few flowers on the one plant. After I cut the plant down to the height of the other two, new growth started lower down on the plant, but I didn't have the patience to wait for another round of buds and flowers.

Because the height of the hood was raised so high for the calendula, the other two plants didn't flower much any more once the calendula started blooming. Both like full sun and so they really need the lights close - they did fine at two inches away.

The gazania was my favourite of the three - very beautiful! Since it naturally grows by the side of dry African roads, it's a strange plant to see in a Mountain Meadow kit. It germinated very quickly and it turned out that four or five of these plants are too much for one pod. The stems for the flowers grow right out of the base and so are competing for room with the foliage, which also grows right out of the base. Due to lack of circulation and because the plants were crowded, new leaves were not able to grow and were turning black. I cut back a couple of the plants when I noticed but three seemed to be a lot as well. The flower itself is only open during the day. Each flower only lasts for about three days, then won't open again. I like the plant so much I've already purchased the Autumn Colors kit which also contains this flower.

The coreopsis has a germination rate of 48% so I was happy that this sprouted for me. The flowers are much smaller than I expected but there were a lot of them and they continued to bloom as long as the lights were close enough. It was by far the most productive as far as flowers go. Once the first set of flowers bloom, new buds are already growing lower on the same stems which then get to be the same height as the original flowers.

This garden was a good growing experience for me.
